Ocean waves crash on the boulders near the jetty that protects the entrance to Hampton Harbor while this gentleman was looking to catch some stripers. Striped Bass is the state saltwater fish of New Hampshire; their range includes the entire Atlantic coastline. They can live up to 30 years and typically weigh 20-40 pounds.

I’ve photographed Mount Chocorua many times before, but each time seems to present a new emotion. Here the fall foliage is coming on strong and the early morning mist on this chilly autumn day rises above the still-warm waters of Chocorua Lake. Thin clouds hover above the broad shoulders of the mountain, almost appearing to be smoke emanating from the jagged peak.

Autumn paints the maples brilliant red, orange, and yellow in this scene along the Squamscott River in Exeter, New Hampshire. The path and waterfront wall are part of Swasey Parkway, a gift to the town of Exeter in 1929 by Ambrose Swasey. This scenic park replaced wharves and warehouses from the shipping trade that was active in the 1800’s.

A short climb from Echo Lake State Park up to Artist’s Bluff unveils expansive views of Franconia Notch in the New Hampshire White Mountains. Autumn colors are just starting to appear in this scene from late summer. Cleared areas on the right are ski trails at Cannon Mountain which, in the summer, offers a tram ride to the top of that mountain. Route 93 snakes along the valley floor. The bare granite ledges of Artist’s Bluff fall away rapidly to the trees 350 feet below.

A lush marsh area found during an early morning walk at Wagon Hill Farm, a conservation area in Durham, New Hampshire. Dense fog shrouds the trees in the distance. This area has interesting walking trails that wind through the forests and fields of an old farm property that borders Great Bay.

The Cocheco River, bank-full from recent rains, spills over the dam at Watson Road in Dover, New Hampshire. Early morning mist glows yellow-orange from the rising sun. The dam gatehouse stands solemnly over waters calm enough to reflect images of the weathered brown and gray wood siding and the vibrant green spring foliage of the trees lining the river banks.

Cathedral Ledge is a 700-foot sheer rock cliff in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, just west of North Conway. Puffy cumulus clouds pepper the sky casting huge shadows on the surrounding mountains and lush, green Saco River valley below. A road leads to the top of this state park where you can walk short trails with amazing vistas. This is a very popular site for rock climbers all year-round.

The sand dunes along Race Point beach at the tip of Cape Cod are beautiful, with green dune grasses separated by sandy depressions. Here footsteps lead up the dune face. An expansive view of the Atlantic Ocean spreads out from this vantage point.

Sandy Point State Reservation lies at the southern end of Plum Island, a classic barrier island along the Atlantic coast in Newbury, Massachusetts. Access to the 77-acre site is from the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge access road. Together with the refuge, This whole area, spanning a little under 5,000 acres, preserves both key salt marsh and barrier beach habitats.
The photograph, enhanced using High Dynamic Range techniques, was captured while I strolled the beach on an unusually warm October day. The time was close to sunset and the clouds provided an interesting sky to contrast with the rough sand and stone beach on the tip of the island.
