Welcome to dthompsen.com, where I share my thoughts on photography, technology, and exploration. My site banner is a photograph of  Great Baya fascinating ocean bay that is a dominant feature of the area I now call home. This bay covers  6,000 acres, is fed by seven rivers, and connects the towns of Dover, Durham, Newmarket, Newfields, Stratham, Greenland, and Newington. It is noted for having one of the fastest tidal currents in the world.

Dave Thompsen

A photographer with an interest in taking photographs of landscapes, architecture, and nature, I like using some artistic filters on many of my images. Techniques that I enjoy using include High Dynamic Range (HDR) and artistic filters via Photoshop software plugins from Photomatix and Topaz Labs. I post most of my works online in my Photography category – also see my gallery for an easy-to-browse selection of images.

As a software engineer, I’ve worked with a variety of computer languages, platforms, and tools. I have experience with Java, Python, HTML/CSS/JavaScript,  as well as application servers and databases from IBM, Oracle, and open source alternatives. My current focus is on data visualization technologies and mobile app development – I post some of my experimentations with these development aspects in my Technology category.
